History
The American Subcontractors Association (ASA) founded in 1966 serves
over 6,000 member firms nationwide. Our chapter of this growing
national organization, known as ASA of the Carolinas, is in its
thirty-fifth year of serving the needs of Subcontractors and Suppliers in
North and South Carolina. ASA is the only non-profit construction trade
association concentrating exclusively on the business issues affecting all
subcontractors and specialty trade contractors. It's members include
both union and non-union firms from virtually every specialty trade. This
association strives to inform building owners, financial representatives,
government officials, and others of the fact that more than 80% of all
industrial and commercial construction is performed by
subcontractors. ASA emphasizes needed reforms on such issues as
retainage, prompt payment, lien rights, building practices and
hold-harmless agreements. With its national headquarters located outside
Washington, DC in nearby Alexandria, VA, ASA is able to represent the
interest of its members directly before the Congress of the United States
and before federal departments and regulatory agencies. ASA's
mission is to provide a forum to improve business conditions for its
members through united and cooperative actions for the betterment of the
construction industry and the community. The American Subcontractors Association
of the Carolinas (ASAC) is the two-state (NC & SC) Chapter
of ASA, representing subcontractors on state and local level issues.
ASAC Chapters meet in local areas across the two Carolinas to educate,
inform and represent contractors.
